This lecture by a renown American author of ''In Death Lamented" and mourning jewelry expert Sarah Nehama - will give an overview of mourning & sentimental jewelry from the mid-17th century to the early 20th century with an emphasis on symbolism.
In this talk Sarah will cover the iconography found in memento mori, mourning, and sentimental jewelry, and how those symbols often intersect.
The various stylistic designs will be placed in context throughout the history of these jewels covering the mid-17th century to the early 20th century in Western Europe and America.

Alexander Vasiliev is a world-renowned fashion historian, author, President of the Alexander Vasiliev Foundation and recipient of the Order of Arts and Literature of France and the Order of the Cross of Latvia.

Kim van Zweeden is a jewellery historian and collector based in Rotterdam, obsessed with mourning jewels and oddities. She regularly publishes in magazines and she gives talks at museums and other inspiring venues.
In her (mainly) Dutch podcast 'Sieraden Sherlock', Kim unravels the secrets of jewellery together with fellow enthusiasts, historians, goldsmiths and gemmologists. Together, they leave no (gem)stone unturned!
