Cedric Laquieze: Fairy Sculptures
Born in Los Angeles, Cedric Laquieze has studied at prestigious Dutch Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
His distinctive practice assembling colorful insect specimens, butterfly wings and texture-rich natural fragments into “fairy sculptures” that are dreamt between the magical and the macabre.
Cedric’s work invites to reconsider our relationship to nature, beauty and transformation: he uses sustainably sourced insects obtained through professional dealers and turns them into fairy tale creatures, giving them the aura of both scientific curiosities and mythical beings.
In his interview with VICE he explains his fascination: after creating an insect-elf for his sister’s birthday he discovered the strange beauty in these forms.
